Del 15 al 18 de febrero de 2018 se celebró la tercera edición de la #EuropeanTaikoConference en Hamburgo, Alemania.
Por parte de Issho Daiko 「 一緒太鼓」 acudimos Isabel, Lola y Andrés para aprender de algunxs de lxs mejores taikistas del mundo y seguir construyendo una comunidad taikista europea fuerte y unida.

Lo primero que hay que destacar es la impecable organización del evento, en esta ocasión a cargo de los cuatro grupos anfitriones: Tengu Daiko, Yo Bachi Daiko, Kion Dojo y Tama Daiko, con la dirección de Jonathan Kirby y Lucy Thomas de Kagemusha Taiko (Reino Unido). Muchísimas gracias a todxs ellxs por hacer que todo funcionara perfectamente.

Este año los talleres estaban impartidos por Eiichi Saito, de Kodo 鼓童 (Japón) Kaoly Asano, líder de Gocoo (Japón) y Shoji Kameda y Masato Baba, de On Ensemble (EEUU). En cada uno de ellos se proponía aprender un tema que los grupos podremos incorporar a nuestro repertorio. Gran idea y excelentes profesores, cada uno en su estilo.

Además, este año volvió a estar presente Karen Young, de The Genki Spark, experta en dinámicas de grupo, con la que tuvimos dos talleres que nos ayudaron a conocernos mejor entre nosotros (y a romper el hielo con el juego del “superpollo”…). También estuvieron presentes los Taiko Drills de Oliver Kirby (Kagemusha Taiko) cada mañana antes de desayunar, ¡¡a las 7am!! ¡¡y estaba lleno!!

Cada noche pudimos disfrutar de actuaciones de diferentes grupos presentes en la ETC. Nosotros tuvimos el privilegio de tocar en dos ocasiones. La noche del viernes presentamos “Madrid Groove”, el primer tema original de Issho Daiko, compuesto por Isabel con la colaboración del resto, y que interpretamos junto con nuestros amigos italianos de Taiko Lecco y Steven, de InnerDrum (Bélgica). Pese a los nervios propios del estreno, salimos muy contentos, ¡y disfrutamos mucho tocando ante el mejor público!

El sábado tuvimos el placer de colaborar con el grupo sueco Hikari Taiko, que nos invitó a nosotros y a los escoceses Tsuchigumo Daiko a interpretar su tema “Saru no Uta” (La canción del mono). ¡¡Fue divertidísimo!!

Maravillosa experiencia que nos hace seguir confiando en el crecimiento de la escena taiko europea. La próxima edición de la ETC repetirá sede, así que ¡esperamos veros en Hamburgo 2019!

From February 15th to 18th the third #EuropeanTaikoConference took place in Hamburg, Germany.
On behalf of Issho Daiko 「 一緒太鼓」, Isabel, Lola and Andrés went there to learn from some of the best taiko players in the world and keep building an european taiko community united and strong.

First things first, the organization was impecable, this time by the four host groups: Tengu Daiko, Yo Bachi Daiko, Kion Dojo and Tama Daiko, under the supervision of Jonathan Kirby and Lucy Thomas, from UK-based group Kagemusha Taiko. Thank you so much to all of them for a truly amazing work.

This year the workshops leaders were KODO’s Eiichi Saito (Japan), Gocoo’s leader Kaoly Asano (Japan), and On Ensemble’s Shoji Kameda and Masato Baba (USA). In each of them we learned a piece that the we can take back home and add to our repertoire. Great idea and excelent workshop leaders, each one in its style.
This year again The Genki Spark’s Karen Young, expert in group dynamics, lead a couple of workshops to help us know each other a little better (and break the ice with the “superchicken” game…). And Oliver Kirby’s (Kagemusha Taiko) “Taiko Drills” got a lot of people out of bed every morning to start the day playing together. 7am and it was always full!!

Every night we enjoyed informal performances by some of the groups attending the ETC. We, Issho Daiko, had the privilege to perform twice. On friday’s night we presented “Madrid Groove”, the first original song by Issho Daiko, composed by Isabel with the collaboration of the rest of the group, and performed alongside our italian friends from Taiko Lecco and InnerDrum’s Steven (Belgium). We were nervous, but we enjoyed it so much with the best audience! On Saturday we had the pleasure of performing with the Swedish group Hikari Taiko, which invited us and Scotland-based group Tsuchigumo Daiko to play their song “Saru no Uta” (Monkey’s Song). It was sooo much fun!!

Wonderful experience that makes us confident in the growth of the european taiko community. The next edition of ETC will take place in the same place, so we hope to see you in Hamburg 2019!
